My name is Scarlett and I’m 24 years old. I first was interested in sewing my own costumes after visiting a friend and finding out that she made her own garb for RenFaire. My first thought was “I want to do that!” I had never touched a sewing machine prior to that and I was determined. I got a Simplicity Renaissance pattern for my first project which turned more or less into a train wreck that either got thrown out or donated. I am self taught and have learned how to do things from Youtube, Google, or sewing groups on Facebook. My work is far from perfect and improvements can always be made but I find myself learning something new with each project I take on.
Since I’ve always been a history nerd my interest in sewing extends only to historical garments. My favorite time periods of clothing would be either the Edwardian era or the Henrician/Tudor era. Nothing can beat the beautiful and elegant silhouette of the Edwardian era though. I strive for historical accuracy when conditions allow but sometimes you just gotta get by with modern methods and what your budget is. No shame in that at all!
In my free time when I’m not sewing I am normally reading, cooking, or tending to my bratty lovebird/sewing assistant. His favorite task is to knock my pins on the ground and watch me pick them up.
